After 3 weeks in Madagascar a short summary. We were a group of 8 travellers and got on well. We were able to admire the beauty of the country, marvel at the extensive flora and fauna and realise that many species are endemic to Madagascar. However, Madagascar is one of the poorest countries in the world and this poverty is a constant presence. And yet, despite their poverty, the people make a life-affirming impression and are absolutely friendly and accommodating towards us. That really impressed me. And when I think about how much money is ‘wasted’ every day on wars that hardly anyone actually wants, how many human lives are sacrificed, how much value is destroyed, I cannot understand why this money is not used sensibly to fight hunger and poverty.
